Turning 50 is a milestone, and at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre (HOBT), it's not just a number—it's a moment of reflection and renewal. As we approached our Big 5-0, our dedicated Board and staff invested time and resources to reflect on our rich past and strategize for the next 50 years. Now, the journey of renewal has begun.
Welcoming Megan West as our new Producing Artistic Director in October marks a pivotal step in our journey. Alongside our small yet mighty staff and committed Board, Megan will lead us in achieving strategic goals that elevate our programming for Mainstage, Education, and Community Partnerships.
Our Renewal Goals Include:
- Expanding and training our artist pool to reach more students in classrooms and community centers across the Twin Cities.
- Diversifying our audience to share the joy and magic of puppetry arts with more people.
- Creating a welcoming space at the Avalon Theater, our long-time home, for a diverse array of performing artists and community members.
- Building the financial resources needed to ensure the sustainability of HOBT for the next 50 years.
Our Legacy Lives On: The legacy of HOBT is alive in the artistry of the puppets and masks showcased in our new Puppet Library. It's vibrant in the faces of children and parents experiencing our work in classrooms, communities, and on our stage. Our legacy thrives in the dedication of volunteers who contribute their time to the Puppet Library, usher at performances, or serve on our Board of Directors. Finally, our legacy is palpable in the individuals who visit the Avalon to reminisce about loved ones and the joy experienced at HOBT.
