Puppet Lab returns for the sixth year of experimental puppet theatre from emerging artists, generously supported by the Jerome Foundation. After an intensive fellowship program that paired each artist with a mentor, these works are ready for the mainstage! Join us for two weekends of radical, genre-bending work! Program directed by Alison Heimstead. Recommended for ages 13+. Tickets: $15.
Week 1:
Friday, March 17 at 7:30pm
Saturday, March 18 at 7:30pm
Sunday, March 19 at 2:30pm
Brothers by Madeline Helling is the story of two brothers who take over their parents’ estate and discover that the demographics of their neighborhood are shifting. But they do not like change. In fact, they hate it. In an effort to maintain the comforts and uphold the liberties of their home, the brothers build a wall to keep the neighbors out. And nobody build walls better than they do. Helling is being mentored by Maren Ward. Brothers features performances by Steve Ackerman and Olli Johnson.
In Fulfillingness’ Rebirth, Chamindika Wanduragala explores a side of motherhood that isn’t often talked about. Her shadow puppet stop-motion animation moves from losing a sense of self and creativity to regaining it. The title plays homage to Stevie Wonder’s album Fulfillingness’ First Finale. Wanduragala is being mentored by Molly van Avery. Dameun Strange has composed music for the performance.
See the Week 2 performances featuring Patty Gille and Allison Osberg!
