Projection & Puppetry
with Laura Heit

Incorporating digital technology into performance

Saturday November 15, 1-5 pm

A hands-on exploration of puppetry and object performance combined with live video projection.

Have you ever wanted to show an intimate moment between two puppets close up? To be able to show the audience what’s inside Punch’s pockets? Video cameras can be our eyes on stage, inviting the audience into small spaces and giving new weight to miniature gestures.
This workshop will focus mainly on using video projection to add texture, landscape, motion, close-ups, and details to your performance, and in some instances expand both the size of your audience and the scale of your work.
We will discuss using film language to expand the limitation of live theater, and begin with a screening of work that has incorporated film/video into live performance, as well as films which play with “live” and animated puppetry.
The second half of this workshop will be a fast-paced, hands-on exploration in which all participants will have the opportunity to use and experiment with live video, video projectors, simple animation, and puppets.

Please bring:

  • A puppet
  • Digital video or still (point and shoot) camera
    and cables – not required
  • Energy to play
Tickets: $40 ($30 for Twin Cities Puppeteers Guild)
