If you like to bring your imagination to life — creating characters, inventing new worlds — then Culture Camp is your kind of place! Working with teaching artists, you will create a play, dance to your heart’s content and give shape to your wonder. Spend one whole day immersed in the world of each of Culture Camp’s five arts organizations: Minnesota Center for Book Arts (MCBA), Children’s Theatre Company (CTC), In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre (HOBT), Highpoint Center for Printmaking, and Zenon Dance School. Work with artist-instructors at each site to create hands-on projects, performances, and more! Friends and family are invited to a presentation at each location each day at 2:45. Participants must provide their own transportation to each institution and bring a bag lunch each day.
Summer 2014 Themes:
Ages 6-7: “Mythical Pets and Their Friends”
Ages 8-9: “You Can Change The World”
Ages 10-11: “All Over The Map”
A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. To receive a scholarship application, contact Lucy Hawthorne at MCBA at 612-215-2549 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Bring your imagination and all your wild ideas to this class. It’s a collaboration between the Loft and In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theatre. We will learn some of the tools that authors use and then we will rewrite history by creating our own group story that “fractures” a well known fairy tale. After our story is ready, we will form groups to design and build a small toy theatre stage, make 2D puppets, and bring the tale to life through our own ingenuity and the techniques that we’ll learn from In the Heart of the Beast teaching artists. At the end of the class we’ll celebrate our accomplishments with a special performance for family and friends. Students need to bring a pencil or pen, notebook, and a folder to class every day.
